The Spartans junior program has proved to be one of the most successful in the league since the inception of full contact juniors in South Australia 9 years ago. Winning the inaugural premiership, they backed up the following year to take the cup again. The junior program has injected the club’s senior side with quality players who now make up the core of the senior squad. The Spartans seniors now boast 10+ players who have progressed successfully from the juniors to make an impact at senior level.

The freshly completed season was also a spectacular success for the Spartans Junior program, going through the regular season undefeated and finishing it off with a win over the Eastside Razorboacks in the Grand Final. After dominating all their games throughout the season, the team certainly gave their fans some heart stopping moments in both their finals matchups.

Falling behind 12-0 against last years premiers, the Chiefs, early in the semi final, things appeared to be heading south fast. Despite this, the team dug deep and run down the opposition prevailing 29-12. Again in the final the Spartans defense gave up the first score of the match. After this however the Spartans punished the Razorbacks mistakes, shutting them out for the rest of the match and taking out the championship decider 20-6. This gave the Spartans their 3rd junior crown, in the first season of juniors to see all 5 local clubs field a side.

The Spartans premiership caps a 3-4 year rebuilding phase Led by Junior head coach Shane Challans. After 2 years as assistant to Dave Cavenett, who stepped up to take on the senior head coaching role, Shane took over the reigns of the improving squad. Returning to assist the team this year was inaugural juniors premiership coach Craig Grant, helping out on the defensive side of the ball. This combination boasts over 60years of gridiron knowledge between them and a big reason for the results of this season. Also assisting the team this season was Drew Akin, passing on valuable information to a new breed of Spartans lineman.

Since the very first junior season, the Spartans have taken a developmental approach to the junior program. Preaching the fundamental skills and proper execution, eager young players have been taught that by knowing the basics and continuously applying them, winning was just a by-product of enjoying the game. Through the tireless efforts of Coaches, Spartans juniors have found their time both beneficial and enjoyable as their skills and knowledge progress. The club looks forward to welcoming a new bunch of future stars for the coming junior season.Combined with 8 key players returning for their final season, the team is in the strongest position yet to repeat this season's success.
